Thank you all for participating in our first Evangeline Home Health Characteristic Award nominations. There were several people who recognized their coworkers and all had wonderful things to say about each! We are honored and proud to be a part of such a prestigious group who care so much for each other and the patients they serve.
The 2016 EHH Characteristic award for CARING goes to: Myra Vincent, RN
Please congratulate her for this honor!
She was nominated with the following descriptions of her caring spirit…
I nominate Myra. She is ALWAYS putting others before herself, showing compassion and love to every stranger. She is smart, thorough, willing to teach or help anyone despite the time it requires and the risk of denying herself. She is the true model of what a NURSE means.
Myra is my nomination for the Caring Nurse Award. She always is concerned about the patient’s well-being and goes out of her way to help the patient, including buying things for the patient out of her pocket if they are indigent or getting community resources for them to get groceries. She loves the patients!
Other wonderful nurses nominated were: Virginia Comeaux, RN, Cindy Reavill, RN, Frankii Files, RN, Dedra Dunn, RN, Kristi Pitre, RN and Cymonne Broussard, RN
Rosewood Nursing Rehabilitation Center parade was a hit! Thank you to Lillian Chambers for organizing the parade. And thank you to Mayor Randy Roach for coming out to join us. The Parade was in honor of Nursing Home Week.

1. Throw a Party
Research shows that people with a consistent, active social life are less likely to experience a decline in the ability to reason and remember.
2. Adopt a Pet
People who own pets have healthier hearts and make fewer visits to the doctor. During times of stress, a pet can lower blood pressure.
3. Choose Chocolate
Dark chocolate is rich in flavonoids, which help cells resist damage that may contribute to cancer, lower blood pressure and improve blood flow to the brain and heart. Eat dark chocolate that contains at least 70 percent cacao and limit yourself to no more than an ounce a day.
4. Drink Coffee Daily
Coffee — regular or decaf — appears to lower the risk of dying from chronic illnesses such as diabetes and heart disease; caffeinated coffee may protect against skin cancer, liver damage, type 2 diabetes and Parkinson’s. Three cups a day also may protect against Alzheimer’s.
5. Raise a Glass
A glass of red or white wine is heart-healthy, but new research says beer, too, is good for the heart. Both drinks also protect against diabetes and some cancer. But limit it to one glass a day for women, two for men.
6. Listen to Music
Your favorite music may be good for your heart, help with sound sleep, boosts mood and reduces anxiety. Patients feel less pain and need less pain medication after surgery if they listen to music while recuperating, research shows.
7. And One More Thing….
Living a healthy life has a lot to do with living an enjoyable life, says Richard Stein, M.D., of the New York University School of Medicine. So enjoy doing those things you love.
